History of Dr.Hook

It all started back in 1969, when producer Ron Haffkine needed a band to the movie Who is Harry Kellermann, Ron,s good friend Shel Silverstein made the music to the movie and Ron and Shel discovered a band called Chocolade paper in a bar, they loved the way the band played and ask them to be on that movie. The bands name was changed to Dr.Hook and the medicine show, which suit the group very well. The members was Ray Sawyer, Dennis Locorriere, Billy Fransic,George Cummings and Jay David. They sang the tittle track on the movie The last morning and also appear in the movie together with Dustin Hoffmann and Shel Silverstein singing Bunky and lucille. Their first album came out in 1971 and it was simly called Dr.Hook. They had a major hit with Sylvia,s mother. On this album you could hear two sides of Dr.Hook one side the ballad beautiful songs as When she cries and Sing me a rainbow, on the other side the groovy I call that true love and Make it naturel. The next year they added two more members to the band Rik Elswit and Jance Garfat and releast their best album after my option Sloopy Seconds, their new single The Cover of the rolling stones shown another side of the band again and became a big hit, and this great song is a very popular live song and even banned in UK. The following album did not sale do good, but it was a great album with lots of great songs as Life ain,t easy, The Wonderful souptone, and You ain,t got no right. It was the last album before they went Bankrupt, there was a follow up Fried Face but it was never releast, sad because it could be a great album, after almost 30 years I got hold of a copy with the songs on Fried Face album and they were great as February snow, Nobody hears what I say, The loonliest people. In 1975 they releast Bankrupt album and the band was shortnamed Dr.Hook. The sigle was Millionary and stis song still are very popular on the concerts. The next single was Only sixteen and a new aerea began for the band. They were back on the charts again. In 1976 they releast A little bit more and this great album was over a year on top 20 charts in Norway. The year after they followed up with Making love and music this album went also high on the charts in Norway. Ray Sawyer also releast a great country solo album which was as number one at the local charts here in Norway, his beautiful sad song Daddys little girl was very popular all over the world!! From now on it was a change on the band they cut their hair and the music was more disco and the band had lot of sucses such as Sexy eyes and When youre in love with a beautiful woman, but they still had great live performence. In 1980 they change label again and had problems to make hits even Baby makes her blue jeans talk was very popular. The band went several times to Australia and they were very popular over there as they were in UK and Scandinavia. In 1983 Ray Sawyer left the band for a country carrer. The two next years Dennis Locorriere fronted the band and in 1985 they did a farwell tour. The same year started Ray Sawyer up a new band called The rest of the story later named Dr.Hook featuring Ray Sawyer, he took his new band all over the world with a lot of sucses, the line up on Rays band had changed a lot thrue the years but Ray always found great musicians. In 1995 Dr.Hook feat Ray Sawyer releast a new CD contains new recordings of 12 classic Dr.Hook songs and 5 brilliant new songs and Dr.Hook was back on charts again, this Cd sold gold in Norway and double platium in Denmark. In the early 90 ties Dennis Locorriere began a solo career with shows together with Norwegian Bjørn Jens, he went over to UK and was billed as the voice of Dr.Hook, Dennis also releast video, cds and DVD,s. In 2010 Dr.Hook feat Ray Sawyer finelly releast an album we fans had been waiting for for year it,s called Captein and contains 9 great brand new songs thanks to Ray for this great album!!
